All these stories seem to always feature a Mean Girls clique too, the inner circle that handles every fitting and every vendor call while everyone else just gets an invoice and a seating assignment. Being technically included but functionally furniture is its own genre of misery, like getting hired for a job and then finding out your only task is standing in the corner looking supportive.
The photo situation is where it really gets ridiculous. Nothing says "you don't actually matter" like watching a bride pull her real friends aside for a separate picture while you're left holding your own flowers like an extra in someone else's movie. And somehow forgetting your name in the thank you speech never seems to happen to the people who didn't pay for anything, funny how that works.
None of this makes anyone dumb for staying loyal past the point of no return. Guilt and sunk cost make a great tag team, they'll keep you standing in a dress you bought for a friendship that clearly already left the building.
